Genetec Brings Cloud-Managed Vehicle-Centric Investigation System to Australia and New Zealand
Genetec Launches Mass Vehicle Surveillance System For ANZ Police
Genetec has launched AutoVu Cloudrunner in Australia and New Zealand. The “cloud-based vehicle-centric investigation system” is designed to detect, analyse and store vehicle identification data to assist in public safety investigations. However, there is no word on what data is to be stored, who will store it, how it will be used nor how the data is being secured, thereby bringing forth privacy concerns and questions regarding police overreach.
Already deployed in more than 75 cities across North America, Cloudrunner has supported various criminal investigations. Lieutenant Jamey Moss from the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office in Georgia said the system has helped expedite cases.
“AutoVu Cloudrunner helps speed up emergency response and assists in closing cases faster,” Moss said.
Features And Capabilities
Cloudrunner enables police forces, community associations and security teams to identify vehicles linked to criminal activity. Real-time hotlist alerts and live monitoring provide immediate insights, assisting with timely intervention.
George Moawad, Country Manager for Oceania at Genetec, said the system is a valuable tool for law enforcement and businesses requiring an automated license plate recognition (ALPR) solution.
“With Cloudrunner, organisations gain enhanced situational awareness and can respond to security challenges more effectively,” Moawad said.
Cloudrunner CR-H2: A Solar-Powered ALPR Camera
The system operates using data collected by the Cloudrunner CR-H2, a solar-powered ALPR camera designed for use in all weather conditions. The camera integrates AutoVu Machine Learning Core technology, allowing it to identify vehicle type, make, model and colour.
Cloudrunner also features an interactive map to refine investigations and focus searches in specific areas.
Larry Legere, Commercial Director at Genetec, said the system is easy to deploy.
“Cloudrunner provides a cost-effective cloud-based solution that simplifies installation. Its intuitive interface requires minimal training, allowing users to start operating quickly,” Legere said.
Cloudrunner is also compatible with AutoVu SharpV ALPR cameras, offering flexibility in managing different camera types within the same platform.
Ease Of Use And Collaboration
The Cloudrunner investigation system operates wirelessly over 4G/LTE networks and does not require specialised ALPR expertise for installation or maintenance. Users can adjust settings through the Cloudrunner Install App.
Genetec has designed the system with privacy and cybersecurity as priorities. The platform enables collaboration between local stakeholders, either as a standalone solution or as part of a broader Genetec Security Center deployment.
Cloudrunner facilitates the secure sharing of ALPR data between authorised stakeholders. It integrates with the Genetec Clearance digital evidence management system, ensuring data is shared securely while maintaining the chain of custody.
“Camera reads can be securely shared between multiple parties while protecting sensitive data. All collected data is processed and stored locally in Australia, with customers retaining full ownership and control,” Moawad said.
Availability And Pricing
AutoVu Cloudrunner is available in Australia and New Zealand through Genetec accredited channel partners. The system is offered as a yearly subscription that includes hardware and software, with a recommended retail price of AUD $4,000 per year.
